Every so often in life there is a moment, which speaks to you beyond the normal confines of time. A moment which strikes you as being more interesting, more involving and more meaningful then anything else you’ve ever witnessed. A moment that is so powerful that it actually seems to stop the clock from ticking and forces you to take notice of it while you’re still in the midst of it.
Tonight is such a moment.
In mere hours I board yet another plane destined for another continent in order to embark on yet another amazing journey. Less then six months ago I found myself in a very similar place as I prepared to leave for a magical automotive odyssey. At the time I thought, and wrote, that it was the greatest adventure of my lifetime. And it was – until now…
Tonight I stand on the doorstep of something greater, something bolder, and something much more meaningful to me personally. A nearly supernatural journey around the world all in the name of the sportbike.
Over the course of the next month this grand adventure will crisscross oceans and landmasses, travel through built up cities and nearly abandoned countrysides, all in order to delve into the history, the factories and the current bikes of some of the greatest motorcycle marques in the world for Discovery Turbo.
It is a trip, a project and a moment, which speak to the very core of my soul. Something that combines everything that I love in life in one marvelously well engineered high horsepower low weight package with very grippy tires. And so it begins…
Update: Hoyt and Tim M have asked a few questions in the comments which might be of value to others…
Does this mean Discovery will have some good moto programming in the future?
We don’t program networks, so I can’t really answer that other then to say that our production is intended to showcase the history, design & engineering, manufacturing and current sport and sport-touring motorcycles.
Is Discovery Turbo another channel that needs to be requested/purchased through your cable provider?
Nope. Discovery Turbo is their new broadband network dedicated to cars, motorcycles, boats and planes. It’s free online motolust programming.
This project is also being shot in High Def and will be showing up on Discovery HD Theater, one of the Discovery cable networks that you do have to request from your cable or satellite TV provider.
Will you be covering John Britten’s home and his legacy?
Not at this time. The focus of this project is to showcase some of the most famous brands in the world that build motorcycles which you can find at your local dealership or that have been or currently are on the racetrack.
I hope Borgo Panigale is on your intinerary and MV Agusta as well.
Yep
It’s hard to shoot a documentary about sportbikes and not visit ‘La Terra dei Motori’ (”Motor Valley”).

Dylan, once again you’re living the life the rest of us dream of. Can I take care of your 1098 while your’re gone?
Doug
wow…this is awesome, man. If you don’t mind, your great news has prompted some questions…

If you make it to Moto Morini please tell Signora Nanni & Mr. Lambertini Doug & Deanna said “we are forever grateful & ciao!”
Right on!
Great site too–I’ve added you to BikerSeek.com
Bon Voyage to you Dylan! I have been watching “Speed on Two Wheels”. It is a really superb achievement by you and Milt, so I know your new dream project will be spectacular. I’m jealous thinking about all the moto eye candy and industry people you’ll see. I hope Borgo Panigale is on your intinerary and MV Agusta as well. Best of luck to ya mate! And I agree with Doug. Human battery tenders work the best and we can help you out with that.
Hey Dylan…man, you are the luckiest guy I know! Looking forward to reading about this trip!
