It doesn’t take long when you visit the Porsche factory in Stuttgart to recognize that this is a very, very different automotive manufacturer. For starters the place feels completely unlike any of the other factories we’ve experienced. The modern lines of the buildings go beyond merely the museum - the entire factory is one large metallic architectural tour de force. Inspiration hangs here in the very air we breath.

The moment you move past the guard gate it’s obvious that these folks take the concept of design well beyond the normal everyday applications but rather apply it to everything that they do and create. From the building exteriors all the way to the very chic corporate style of dress, the environment is unique and delicious all at the same time. Yet while the style and substance of the place is a marvellous arena from which to view today’s automotive world, the reality is that what these folks produce is exceptional because it has never gone out of style.
The Porsche 911 is perhaps the most timeless automobile ever created. The basic lines go back to the 1948 Porsche 356 and continue to evolve in today’s latest and greatest Porsche 911 Turbo’s and GT3’s. As they say, Porsche is not about revolution, but evolution. It’s a very unique philosophy and one that perhaps more auto manufactures ought to heed. Unlike a lot of car badges that come and go, the 911 has stayed true to its roots and perhaps more importantly, the folks who build and create it never seem to have cared about what others think is cool. Instead they have spent their lives keeping one of the most timeless automotive icons alive.
