The 600 Mile Service (Again!)

Amazingly enough I’ve ridden over 600 miles on the new Duc. So yesterday I bounced out of work a bit early and dropped the bike off at ProItalia for the first service. Around noon today they called to say it was already finished. That kind of blew my mind. Usually it takes a bit longer to get it done. So in less than twenty four hours I head back out to Glendale again and picked up the Diva. Even though traffic was a bit of a bitch (like when isn’t it in LA???), the bike felt like a whole other beast. It’s just flat out amazing how a little bit of tweaking can make it feel so much more solid in such a short order. Of course I suppose I’m reacting a bit to being able to get a bit higher on the tach too. So now I’m offically halfway to a full break-in!!!! Sweet.

Nice write up there. I miss my Duc! 23 January I was hit by an elderly woman (head - on, mind) while on my lovely 996 and sent to the hospital and my baby went to the great race track in the sky.
Since then I’ve been on the mend, greatly improving and considering another street bike again. The 999 is finally growing on me, though I cannot say I find it as striking a bike as the 916/996 model for looks. Did you get the S model? That is the one I’m considering, mostly for the brakes and Ohlins front end - though the brakes and Showa front on a standard bike can be made as good.
Before my trip to Italy (returned Thursday 9 June, and yes, I went to the MotoGP in Mugello) I went down to the new Ducati shop in Santa Barbara, sat on the 999S and told the sales guy “I deliberately DID NOT bring my tie downs and ramp today” but of course spent the whole trip home thinking of the financial details!
Anyway, driving around Italy was like torture for not being on two wheels but instead driving an absolute p.o.s. of an excuse for a Nissan auto.
So you really think the ‘05 is that much better than the ‘04?
    Ciao,
    Mike

Sorry to hear about your wreck… That sure doesn’t sound like much fun. I have the regular ‘05 999 - not the ‘S’. For me it was purely a financial decision and frankly I don’t hit the track enough to find the value in it. I can tell you that the difference between the ‘04 and the ‘05 is pretty drastic imho. I’ve noticed far less wind due to the taller screen, the seat is a serious improvement over the old one (night & day difference), the bike generally feels more planted (new swingarm?), and most importantly there’s a serious improvement in the seat of the pants feeling when accelerating. The low end torque has definitely been kicked up. Hope that helps!
