One of the more fascinating past times I’ve noticed while reading a variety of ducati message boards is that people tend to continually post about eBay auctions that they either find of great interest or because they believe them to be total scams. Perhaps this is the modern technology equivalent of guys standing outside The Rockstore on Mullhulland talking about which tires or dealerships are the best. In any case as I’ve seen more and more of these types of posts, I’ve begun to pay more attention to what get listed on eBay when it pertains to Ducati. Of course, I’m loath to purchase parts for my bike off eBay because of my prior experience with having the 749 stolen. To this day I tend to believe that eBay’s virtual shopping center is where the vast majority of the parts from that bike ended up. Especially since the criminals left the frame in an office park and none of the parts that were removed had any VIN numbers or identifying pieces of information. However I still cruise through the listings because every so often I see parts listed on eBay that lead me to a manufacturers website that I otherwise would not have found. I tend to think of this as a reverse form of advertising. Yellow Pages for a global economy.

This morning while checking out the listings I stumbled on to a company called CutGrafix, who bills themselves as, “a group of bike owners and riders, passionate about Ducatis and racing. We produce very high quality motorcycle art and reproduction stickering sets for all types and ages of bikes, but with a focus on Ducati and their race bikes from all years.” I have no idea what the quality of their work is like or who they really are, but the idea of doctoring up the 999 in racing stripes semi intriques me. I suppose it’s a bit sacrilegious since one of the things that I believe seperates the Ducati experience from other bike marques is the clean lines, bright colors and lack of overwhelming sticker sets. On the other hand these are race bikes built for the track and on the track this is how they get dressed up… So the debate goes on and who knows where it will end up.
For arguements sake here’s a shot of cutgrax 999 Fila set… kinda cool…
