Cycle World’s Early Take on The 1098R

31 January 2008 133 views No Comment

Just in case you can’t get your fill of 1098R news, Cycle World has posted a rather in-depth analysis of the 1098R intro in their forums…

Tech Editor Kevin Cameron had this to say:

On Ducati’s sales strategy:It’s reminiscent of GM in the 1920s, when they created the steps to entice buyers to pick Chevy over another GM brand with a similar product. Ducati is good at that. There’s the 1098 which is good, and then the 1098s which is better and then the 1098R. They also had one machine with accessories, which was even more bejeweled than the ordinary ducs…and they had actual Superbike race machines, with all the kit parts. If a buyer is in a mind to spend money, Ducati is in a position to help them.”

Associate Editor Mark Cernicky was also on hand:

The track is bitchin’, the weather is awesome, I couldn’t pick a better place. The bike had lots of power, like a 1098 with 30 percent more power. It’s the closest stock bike ever to a superbike racer…it’s really bitchin’! They also had a World Superstock bike, which had all kinds of crazy race parts…stuff I’ve never seen before, but essentially the 1098R is the same.”

You can check out the rest here. A worthwhile read for sure…
