Rossi Hints at Future Ducati Move?

BBC Motorsport has posted a heck of a rumor on their website, one that’s sure to get every MotoGP racing fan riled up…

Former MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi has warned Yamaha he could move to rivals Ducati in 2009 if they do not make major improvements next season.

The five-times champion has missed out on the title for the last two seasons.

“If it gets better I can wait another year. If not there is nothing left to do,” he told Italian website La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I have a good relationship with both Ducati and Honda but I would prefer Ducati because they are Italian.”

I heard this rumour too but wondered about the feasability of it. Stoner and Rossi on the same team? The podiums would be those two and Pedrosa about 90% of the time! Would Dorna be okay with that? Then there’s Rossi’s salary. Supposedly he’s spoken with Ducati before but his fees were prohibitive for them. $30 mil a year is probably most of Ducati’s GP budget unless they land a sponser willing to pay for the Doctor for house calls. He’s been world champ so many times, I’m thinking he’d go do something else like drive rally cars. But if it happens, forza Ducati!!!

Personally I’d be awfully surprised is Yamaha let Rossi walk, but I guess one never knows…
