And The Tapes Are In The FedEx

It’s been a crazy few weeks as of late – the final legs of the post-production journey always are – but finally the automotive projects I’ve been working for Discovery’s new online broadband channel, Turbo.com, are done and in FedEx.

Last week I spent five days in LA for the final audio mixing sessions. While fine tuning the audio has never been one of my great joys in life, it is a true art form and quite possibly the least acknowledged part of the process when it comes to finishing up projects like this one. Most folks never notice the vast amount of time and energy that gets spent on making the audio sound as pristine as possible, but they certainly do notice when the audio goes south. In some ways it’s a rather thankless job. You do it well and nobody ever remembers. But you screw it up and everyone knows it. Thankfully the audio mixing house that we used did a fantastic job!

Once the mixing was done it was time to drop the tapes off at FedEx. Months of hard work got handed over to a FedEx field rep who had absolutely no idea what was inside the box. At moments like these I find myself partially filled with terror because these are the master tapes after all and yet at the same time this incredible sense of relief tingles through your body. Then about a half hour later you crash. Your body ready for months of hibernation. Of course that’s not really possible in the real world, but right now I wish it were.

In any case it’s good to know that the tapes are on their way. Once I know when the films will begin airing online I’ll post some more info.
