New RSS Feed Addy

Time for a little geek speak. Hope nobody minds… It’s come to my attention that apparently the current RSS feed for TwistingAsphalt has been having a few issues as of late. If the phrase ‘RSS Feed’ sounds to techish not to worry, this mini rant only applies to the folks using RSS feed readers to view TwistingAsphalt content. Best I can tell the current RSS feed is still working, but not quite as efficiently or effectively as one would hope. So as always I spent a little time tinkering with it and while doing so stumbled on to a different and perhaps better way to syndicate the content on the site.

Enter Feedburner.com stage left. This nifty RSS feed syndication site offers a few new twists on the old RSS feed. First it does a much better job of formatting the content than the previous feed did. The downloads look less like a jumbled mess and closer to the graphical vision of the site. They’re clean and rather unobtrusive in my opinion – all of which strikes me as a big deal if you’re trying to effectively communicate the words, pictures and sounds on the page. But Feedburner doesn’t stop there it also offers some new delivery methoods which struck me as being particularly cool and perhaps useful to the end reader of the site. According to the my web site stats it appears that roughly half the folks who read the site do it via a feed reader, but for the other folks who I suspect either don’t know what a feed reader is or have no desire to use one, Feedburner offers to syndicate the RSS Feed over Email. So if that appeals to you, drop your email address into the Mailing List box to the top right of the page and you’re off and running. It’s also probably worth nothing that the new TwistingAsphalt mailing list is purely for the RSS content and not a marketing ploy or ad revenue generating device. No one can access it for Spam or the like. It’s simply a new and different distribution methood for the site and if it suits your fancy cool. If not, that’s cool too.

With that in mind, I’m not turning off the old 2.0 RSS Feed, but as of this time I’ve removed all the links to it on the site. So if you’re still using the older RSS feed and are happy with it, then not to worry this is just more internet geek speak noise to filter out…

Now you just need to fix the navigation so it doesn’t hang off of the right side of the site. I can fix it for you if ya like :)
