Paul Smart 749

I would imagine that most Ducatista have already noticed the 749 dressed in a retro Paul Smart paint scheme that’s gracing the Ducati.com website, but it bares mentioning for those who haven’t seen it.

According to Ducati’s press release;

Thirty-three years after Paul Smart’s historic victory at Imola aboard the Ducati 750 Desmo – and the very same week that Ducati launched the new Sport Classic Paul Smart replica – Gianluca Nannelli took victory at Imola aboard an SC Caracchi Ducati 749 prepared in the classic Paul Smart silver livery of 1972.

Although the Tuscan rider has enjoyed two podium finishes earlier in the season with thirds at Monza and Brno, today’s result not only represents his first victory with the team, but also Ducati’s first for the 749 at World Championship level.

You can read more about the win here if you’re interested.

All in all it’s a pretty sharp paint scheme if you ask me. One wonders with all the retro sport classic chatter, why the factory isn’t offering a retro painted 749/999 for consumers…
