Focus Group, Anyone?

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned how our latest Gearhead DVD had gone into production. This one is targeted towards Mercedes-Benz Automobiles and the history of the marque. So fast forward a few weeks and we’re just getting the marketing machine - i.e. me and an email client - up and running. Steve, our web guru, has worked up two different potential banner ads. I like them both, but I’m unsure which is a more effective marketing tool. So I thought I’d post something on the blog and see if anyone had any suggestions.

Mercedes Web Banner #1

Mercedes Web Banner #2

Anyone like one more than the other? Are they interesting enough to make you want to click on them? Basically, if you’ve got any thoughts, let me know!

The first one grabs my immediate attention due to the large Merc logo, but I feel like the wait to read all the text that cycles through the middle is a little long. That and the picture of the car on the right seems like a waste of real estate, and forces the most informative part of the ad to only use the leftover space.

The second one reminds me of a movie trailer and presents the message far quicker. The only thing I don’t llke is the gold Mercedes logo. It feels wrong to me only because of the Mercede’s long running tv ad campaign where they feature the silver logo prominently.

I vote for #1. It’s simpler (i like simple), elegant, and to the point. It would be interesting to see itr with the gullwing pix worked in.

I dig the second one. I think it conveys the most information the quickest; the black and white photos do a lot for me.

I like the the second one. The image of the classic Mercedes coupe is very stylish and reminds people of the history aspect of the DVD

They are both great but I tend to lean more towards the second one. I’m in agreement with Travis in that there is too much wait to read through the text on the first. I also like the old school MBZ picture on the second.

I like the second one, too. The Gullwing just grabs you and says, “Mercedes.”
